P.S. What’s with the pink?
My grandfather co-founded a concrete supply company in 1937 called Farley & Lewers. In the 1960’s, he made the decision to paint the cement trucks pink. In the year I was born, Farley & Lewers won the Hoover Marketing prize.
I’m proud of my heritage and often reflect on how brand and innovative my grandfather was. I also love the juxtaposition of concrete and pink – a solid, foundational product with a soft touch.
It’s a lot like how I see good research – based on robust foundations but also partly art and creativity. I’ve carried the pink forward as a reminder of this.
